Below are things to consider in putting together a sterilization system to meet your needs.

Chamber Size?
A good place to begin deciding which Consolidated sterilizer will meet your requirements is the chamber sizes of our rectangular and cylindrical sterilizers. Chamber sizes are listed by internal dimensions. We will make custom size chambers for your special requirements!

Size charts: Rectangular or Cylindrical

Chamber Shape?
Choose between rectangular or cylindrical. There are pros and cons to each chamber configuration. A rectangular unit efficiently utilizes space and allows for the use of carts and multiple shelves. The lack of corners in a cylindrical sterilizer makes it ideal for maintaining the cleanliness of the chamber. In addition, the cylindrical units are less expensive than a rectangular unit of comparable dimensions. Both chambers are ASME certified.

Steam, Electric, or Gas?
The next choice in deciding on the ideal steam sterilizer for you is the steam source. Our sterilizers can use your building steam supply (direct steam), or steam from a steam generator (either electric or gas powered.) Even if house steam is available in your facility, this decision should not be taken lightly.

Helpful Tip: Are You Using Clean Steam?

Double Wall or Single Wall Vessel?
All of the SSR and SR series sterilizers are double wall vessels. This simply means that surrounding the chamber is a second wall known as the steam jacket. The steam jacket is filled with steam when your sterilizer is first started an acts as a steam reservoir.

The steam reservoir minimizes the time it takes for each individual cycle to come up to temperature and pressure. If you will not be running a series of cycles and are not sterilizing liquids, you will find that a single wall vessel will be the more economical choice.

Controls?
Sterilizers are provided with a choice of two types of controls. The Steromaster Mark II Solid State Digital Automatic Controls (PB series) are time-tested and have enjoyed a reputation for reliability and simplicity. This control system is recommended for facilities with multiple users who want simple, user-friendly operation.

The Steromaster Mark V Microprocessor Automatic Controls (MC series) are our state-of-the-art control system. A CRT screen and touch keypad offer the operator sterilization versatility and control.

Vacuum or Gravity?
Our standard sterilizers are gravity type units. This means that in the initial purge cycle of the sterilization process, all air is removed from the chamber by gravity displacement (steam is lighter than air).

If you are sterilizing goods which are difficult for steam to penetrate or require a long drying period, you may need to upgrade to a vacuum system. We can provide you with a water ejector or vacuum pump. Keep in mind that if you decide on a vacuum equipped sterilizer, your sterilizer will be supplied with Microprocessor Controls.

Single or Double Door?
Pass-through (double door) sterilizers are utilized in clean room or bio-hazard situations where goods are loaded from one end (dirty room) and unloaded after sterilization from the other end (clean room). Double door sterilizers are highly recommended for all applications; their use eliminates the contamination or recontamination of the goods and environment.
